Vacancies exist for 6 Summer Stewards for the forthcoming Summer season to serve on board Orkney Ferries vessels, primarily on the route above. Duties will be varied. The Rota for this is 1 week on/1 week off.

Candidates should hold an Elementary Food Hygiene certificate, but training will be provided to successful candidates if necessary.

The below certification would also be desirable, but is not essential:

  • STCW PSSR.
  • STCW Elementary First Aid.
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques.
  • STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (3-day course).

Successful candidates must also hold / be willing to obtain a valid ENG 1 Medical Certificate prior to a start date.

The salary for these posts is £27,288 inclusive of DIA of £2,997.00 per annum pro rata.

The Company operates a contributory pension scheme currently at 15% and a sick pay scheme.

Seasonal Customer Services Adviser / Check-in Assistant - Houton, Orphir - FER2616

35 hours per week, Summer Season 2026

07:30 to 15:30, Monday to Friday

£31,356 pro rata / £17.18 per hour (inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance)

We are looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic individual to become part of the Orkney Ferries Customer Service team, primarily based at Houton on a seasonal basis.

This position represents a challenging opportunity assisting in a range of duties including checking in vehicles and passengers prior to embarkation on the ferry, customer services, dealing with enquiries and taking bookings and details for the Ferry booking system and administrative support.

Candidates should hold a qualification at SCQF 5/6 i.e., SVQ2, National 5, Standard Grades, O Grade, Intermediate 2, SVQ3, Higher, National Certificate, Foundation Apprenticeship, or, where the essential qualification is not held, you should have a minimum of 2 years previous relevant experience, as detailed in the experience section of this person specification.

Candidates will also be able to demonstrate the ability to establish good working relationships with all levels of staff and to provide a professional service to the public. With a busy workload you must be organised and able to work on own initiative and prioritise work in order to cope with tight deadlines. Excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills are essential for this role.

You must be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirement of the Service.

GP Deck Rating - REW Service - FER2617
Closing Date: 11:59pm, Sunday 3rd May

A permanent vacancy exists for a General Purpose Deck Rating to serve on board Orkney Ferries vessels, primarily on the Rousay, Egilsay and Wyre service, however you will be required to cover on other routes as required.

Duties will be varied between deck rating, purser or cook as required. This post will require a high level of interaction with the travelling public. On duty periods will be defined by the shift rota for the position.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced officers to fill this post. Applicants must hold as minimum:

  • Valid ENG 1 medical certificate.
  • STCW PSSR.
  • STCW Elementary First Aid.
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques.
  • STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (3-day course).

Ideally candidates should also hold the following, but training will be provided for the right candidate.

  • STCW Crowd Management
  • STCW Crisis Management and Human behaviour
  • STCW Passenger Safety Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity
  • Elementary Food Hygiene

Efficient Deck Hand (EDH) is desirable, but candidates not holding an EDH will be considered and will be required to gain their EDH certificate within 2 years.

Candidates must be prepared to reside on Rousay when on duty shift.

The salary scale is £34,904 to £38,825 inclusive of DIA which is currently £2,997, subject to qualifications and experience.
