We are looking to recruit two committed and enthusiastic individuals to become part of the Orkney Ferries Customer Service team based across our three sites.
These positions represent a challenging opportunity assisting in a range of duties including checking in vehicles and passengers prior to embarkation on the ferry (working outside / kiosk), customer services, dealing with enquiries and taking bookings and details for the Ferry booking system and administrative support.
Candidates should hold a qualification at SCQF 5/6 i.e., SVQ2, National 5, Standard Grades, O Grade, Intermediate 2, SVQ3, Higher, National Certificate, Foundation Apprenticeship, or, where the essential qualification is not held, you should have a minimum of 2 years previous relevant experience, as detailed in the experience section of this person specification.
Candidates will also be able to demonstrate the ability to establish good working relationships with all levels of staff and to provide a professional service to the public. With a busy workload you must be organised and able to work on own initiative and prioritise work in order to cope with tight deadlines. Excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills are essential for this role.
You must be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirement of the Service.

A vacancy exists for a qualified Able Seafarer to serve on board Orkney Ferries network, primarily on the above route, however you will be required to cover other routes as required. The Rota for this is 2 weeks on/2 weeks off plus an additional 4 weeks annual leave per complete year served. Minimum certification required for this position is:
- Valid ENG 1 medical certificate.
- Certificate of proficiency as an Able Seafarer Deck Reg II/5
- STCW PSSR.
- STCW Elementary First Aid.
- STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
- STCW Personal Survival Techniques.
- STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (3-day course).
- EDH certificate.
Candidates should ideally also hold STCW Crowd Management, STCW Crisis Management and Human behaviour, STCW Passenger Safety Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity certification, AND Elementary Food Hygiene certificate but training for these can be provided for the successful candidate if required.
The salary scale is £34,787 p.a. plus D.I.A. of £2,859. The Company operates a contributory pension scheme currently at 15% and a sick pay scheme.
