Orkney Ferries and Covid-19

ORKNEY FERRIES AND COVID -19: Update as at 17 March 2020

Following the lead taken by some local businesses and service organisations, effective immediately there will be some changes in how we provide service at Orkney Ferries offices and on vessels.

Let me first make an obvious plea if you are showing any of the symptoms that you are or signs that you may be infected, please do not attend our offices or vessels. If you have to no choice but to travel, please seek NHS guidance and contact our Shore Street office on 01856 872044 to make some specific and very necessary arrangements to protect our staff and other travellers.

For our offices and on board, social distancing will be the new norm!

We may limit the number of people in the office and ask that people inside keep apart.

We would ask that only one member of a family attends the office to get tickets.

We will be asking you to keep your distance from our staff and keep the flow of goods one way - us to you.

We are encouraging patrons not to use cash. For some people this is not an option and we will accommodate this.

Where possible, we would ask that you use the telephone or info@orkneyferries.co.uk for reservations.

Where you are purchasing books of vouchers, we are happy to post these to you at no cost to yourself.

On board:

We will be closing cafeterias on board. Please feel free to bring your own refreshments with you.

We will not issue boarding passes (where this is current practice). These will be retained by the staff for passenger counting purposes.

We will be enhancing the cleaning routine (with some possible minor delays to service) before and after every voyage.

You may see passenger facing crew in PPE that they would not normally wear. This is both for their protection and yours.

We realise that this exceeds current recommendations and we do not wish to alarm but we have decided to err on the side of caution and strive to keep our staff and travellers well! Further updates will be issued as this very fluid situation unfolds and additional guidance is received from authorities.

Thank you for your understanding.
